Common Name: 'White Cedar' or 'Chinaberry'

This is a very hardy, medium sized deciduous shade tree, and one of the few Australian native deciduous. The 'White Cedar' is a fast growing tree with a rounded crown once developed. The leaves are fern-like glossy dark-green, alternate and long-petioled. The flowers are small perfumed lilac coloured flowers that form clusters all over the tree in spring. Bird attracting fruit are formed after the flowers.

This tree makes a wonderful specimen and equally a wonderful avenue tree.

Melia will grow in most soil types but do prefer well drained soil in full sun. They are drought tolerant, able to cope with frost and can grow on the coast making them very durable and versatile.
